I wanted to keep it simple so that the main focus is the film. So essentially I have tried to give my work a context; </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">''Since its earliest days, video has been an intensely personal medium. So if I am talking about my anxieties, the face, the sounds and the body language all help to relay and communicate these feelings. </span></span><div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">He uses sound scores of overlapping words. that are then coupled with filmed images that are projected onto interesting objects. The source material is often taken from popular culture, in particular television. </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:arial;">Oursler's most recent work works on the notion of how people take the technology and the culture of mass media and personalise it and make it a part of their lives.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:arial;font-size:small;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:arial;font-size:small;">If a person is talking in a video, the audience interacts with it, as they feel that the speaker is talking to them as an individual. This is the sort of thing I have chosen to, as I have made several audio recordings of myself speaking about the external and internal aspects of meditation.</span></div><div><div><div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">He also uses harsh lighting on his subjects when filming. This creates shadows and highlights on the subject allowing the viewer to see different aesthetics of the same thing. Having used projections in this project, I can begin to understand the effects that can be obtained from this method of working; i.e. adding emphasis to facial expressions and body gestures.</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 245px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiABVU3nAHdaIOxagDGYDDJSEO8qEThBXS-uW3m6Apd-e-aFeAuQAwc26boym0GPsbmQYDfmLstpBuEdWmpJ_elJfNykJDucMx7POzXzqYjpxo0aBpHICMD6bSw5IIOdp3yxYclocsEP6aQ/s320/tony-oursler-lisson-gallery-london-installation-asl.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703606479683396626" /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">'ASL' (2008) film installation at Lisson gallery</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><a href="http://vimeo.com/7928811">http://vimeo.com/7928811</a></span></span></div></div></div></div></div></div>Nathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614733537300522585.post-7206988450663319272012-01-29T03:21:00.000+00:002012-02-01T03:35:03.631+00:00raw video footageHere are some of the raw video footage I used in my film. Generally their music is classed as folk music, but this particular track that I sourced entitled ''Wildlife'' taken from the ''Signs Of Life album'' has a different feel to it. It has an ambient and soothing instrumental quality to it that really grabbed my attention. I have been meditating to this track quite often, which has allowed me to connect with it in context to meditation. The bell/chiming sound effects are similar to the sounds of the singing bowl, which are used in the meditation sessions at the buddhist centre that I attend.<div><br /></div><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xfcMQHNnOk">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xfcMQHNnOk</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Nathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614733537300522585.post-51432804396194955972012-01-15T21:25:00.000+00:002012-01-15T21:29:10.886+00:00installation design ideas<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6ojRYYtdzFnSOdBG6b8MqX5N9RspME1LYoT4UZitsNMkFyRSer7FHjbNycGWS95LXHpzbmEViFM52Gs2xyD2toRRJoW0UKigBX4CybBAoN4YMB_R0idSskeM7YcrrL8TNXu0tKdcCtMD/s1600/IMG_0749.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6ojRYYtdzFnSOdBG6b8MqX5N9RspME1LYoT4UZitsNMkFyRSer7FHjbNycGWS95LXHpzbmEViFM52Gs2xyD2toRRJoW0UKigBX4CybBAoN4YMB_R0idSskeM7YcrrL8TNXu0tKdcCtMD/s320/IMG_0749.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697973513267794674" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6xMWkU0uqKuv3Y-iDGkLYxKgX4MkdEcEMiDm_-aRWBE657epxttMfuIwLNLcvJP55Sj3b9F_S1ON9ng9rrDAMorpgcLIAzKSoTR0JJ3b9y9tAvj8VhwcuAyOulax3wtr_zRgTjbTF70dr/s1600/IMG_0746.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6xMWkU0uqKuv3Y-iDGkLYxKgX4MkdEcEMiDm_-aRWBE657epxttMfuIwLNLcvJP55Sj3b9F_S1ON9ng9rrDAMorpgcLIAzKSoTR0JJ3b9y9tAvj8VhwcuAyOulax3wtr_zRgTjbTF70dr/s320/IMG_0746.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697973504611129778" /></a>Here are some pictures of the installation space that I have booked out - slightly bigger than I had originally thought, but it is a nice sizeNathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614733537300522585.post-46247644186598583692012-01-15T20:16:00.001+00:002012-01-15T20:24:54.110+00:00audio composition<div>Here is the composition I have mage for my film installation. It is very literal, but I think if someone is watching the film with no understanding of meditation, then it gives an indication to the viewer about the subject matter.<br /><iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/35342340?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/35342340">installation altar</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user10078730">Nathalie Moore</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.</p>Nathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614733537300522585.post-42865349105782835332012-01-06T19:32:00.000+00:002012-01-19T21:44:58.570+00:00ink drops - calmHere is a test I have created to illustrate the body in a particular state of calm. I have used ink drips into water and made it into a stop frame animation. I then overlayed an image of my back in a relaxed state, with a mask around the edges of the back, so that the ink has some boundaries. <br /><br /><iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/35337949?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/35337949">Blue ink drips test</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user10078730">Nathalie Moore</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>Nathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5614733537300522585.post-88159740672603200392012-01-05T21:52:00.000+00:002012-01-05T22:06:03.517+00:00Installation design ideas<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRqu1WjvWnGmylhPM2JXAzIp_DCPyzwOh0zFzS3LBxIy79IGZm-GaWSetOySeHVzCoIZuuhzgZlAwwiE8RwDeWnULBnoX1PexbFugL3D9VDNeFpa_3bfFZz79PYEWQSEUZ9gSU6fvz-YgQ/s1600/IMG_8192.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRqu1WjvWnGmylhPM2JXAzIp_DCPyzwOh0zFzS3LBxIy79IGZm-GaWSetOySeHVzCoIZuuhzgZlAwwiE8RwDeWnULBnoX1PexbFugL3D9VDNeFpa_3bfFZz79PYEWQSEUZ9gSU6fvz-YgQ/s320/IMG_8192.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694269877160207090" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4hMSVWvNVY88-OdgbGZiEZb0QBH-cXPyZVEMQ0uGvUzPsv0xieMN10LhA2LPzcNngmxPXGpmopJE3DjhIASvOWlVU8UMUouZcN0ndaOtFjMXMMZpM6_sFKGBVrzh9Q0R1zlt1jiWfvubi/s1600/IMG_8191.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4hMSVWvNVY88-OdgbGZiEZb0QBH-cXPyZVEMQ0uGvUzPsv0xieMN10LhA2LPzcNngmxPXGpmopJE3DjhIASvOWlVU8UMUouZcN0ndaOtFjMXMMZpM6_sFKGBVrzh9Q0R1zlt1jiWfvubi/s320/IMG_8191.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694269872630871250" /></a>Here are some pictures of the shrine at the buddhist centre that I attend. They have focused light downwards onto the shrine and the colours are rich and warm looking. I would like to create a something similar to this, but much simpler focusing on the candles, incense burning and a small buddha shrine. Ideally I would like to paint the room a warm rich and sensual colour - a reddish yellow.<div><br /></div><div>I haven't quite decided what to put up on the walls either side of the walls yet but it needs to have an element of journey, that starts off very busy at the entrance and then fizzles out as it gets to the projection. This will depict how the process of meditation allows all the thoughts to essentially dissapear.<br /><div><br />The main focus will be on the film projection, which I envisage to be focused at the back, although I will have to finalise this and make sure that it is viable in the allocated space. I also need to accurately take the measurements of the space again.</div></div>Nathalie Moorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06432938509860015117noreply@blogger.com0
